Japanese Flip App Reviews

I dont bother writing many reviews unless a program is either very good or very bad. In this case the program is more than very good. I am studying the JLPT, so this program meets my needs exactly. What made me want to write a review was the excellent method that it uses to pick which words to test. It is quite amazing when you are studying because it is not obvious from the screenshots. I have learned the words much more quickly than I have using other flash card methods. The word chooser is much better at gauging my progress than any other programs that I have used. For me thats a huge win. I would recommend this program for learning the JLPT words or Japanese words in general.

This is a great reinforcement tool. However, dont think youll learn Japanese from this tool alone. You will need to look elsewhere for example sentences, audio, and grammar. It does get boring after long stretches but it is a great way to drill vocabulary.

Based on my experiences with Kanji Flip (extremely happy with Kanji Flip), I purchased this app. Im pleased to say it has exceeded my expectations! Just as KFlip is a fantastic kanji drill, JFlip is an excellent and painless means by which to drill vocabulary. The UI is uncluttered, easy to navigate and pleasant to look at. The SRS seems to be implemented very well. The ability to toggle furigana is a very nice touch. Im confident my vocab will increase very fast with this. There is only one thing I would add: ~~~ Audio!!! Furigana is great but Id love the ability to verify/reinforce pronunciation. Audio would also enable me to test whether I know a word merely from hearing it. Oh, it would also be nice to have a list of all the words in each category for reference (perhaps on the devs website if not actually in the app). If Japanese Flip had those features (especially the Audio), Id double my rating and give it 10 stars!

This is by far the best tool for learning Japanese vocabulary I have ever seen. Ive seen my reading skills improve dramatically since I started using it. Great job!

I really enjoy the Japanese Flip app. Its one of my favorite and most used applications. I took Japanese in high school but my vocabulary has easily tripled because of this app. Its a must buy The only things I think are missing is the ability to modify existing words and greater flexibility with added words.

I have been studying Japanese for over 20 years. Over time I have acquired a lot of Kanji learning paraphernalia, in physical form such as flash card sets, and software apps for desktop and mobile. This application has been the most effective for me in learning, and more importantly, remembering kanji and Japanese words. The learning structure is simple and effective. Just exactly the right amount of information is revealed when it is needed to test you thoroughly. You do need fluency in kana however. The intelligent re-testing based on your strengths and weaknesses is optimal. It works much better than other formats such as multiple-choice. As a mobile app it is perfect for staying proficient anytime, anywhere you have a spare moment. The fonts used are brilliant and clear - essential for learning to recognize complicated kanji. Finally the dictionary content included is accurate and relevant. While other apps might have more bells and whistles, such as showing stroke animations, practicing the writing of kanji, fully editable lesson files, speech output, etc. etc., this app achieves what it sets out to do: learn Japanese words quickly. Even if you use it for only a few minutes per day your vocabulary will increase. I was amazed at the results. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I use this with chalkboard (another app) to review and learn new kanji. I would rate this as one of the best values in learning tools I have found in many years of studying Japanese.

I love this app! It allows me to review Japanese vocab during even the smallest chunks of free time. The app is easy to use and offers a good selection of vocab. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone looking for a simply way to review Japanese.

Retina displays have been around for a year and a half, and for an app to not have been updated accordingly is a huge turn-off. Any even mediocre designer could design high def icons for the entire app in… no more than a few hours. Sticky Study Japanese is light years ahead.

I am an advanced Japanese learner and I was getting frustrated with all the apps for beginners. Well this app would be great for any level learner. This is the first review I have ever written bc this is the first app Ive found deserving one. Simple yet (or therefore) effective.

I have been using this app for several years, and have gone from knowing very few kanji to knowing almost 3000 with just a few minutes each day. Every student of Japanese that I show it to embraces it enthusiastically. The algorithm it uses for determining when to show you new kanji, or to revisit kanji youve already learned is the most effective Ive encountered in flip-card programs.

This is a fantastic tool for vocabulary and kanji memorization. Like previous users, I was already had an intermediate comprehension of Japanese, and was looking for a way to study rather than an introduction to the language. This app is really perfect for that! I find myself using it whenever I have a few minutes, and Ive learned a lot from it. Its fun, too! One suggestion: Add the option of studying from English to Japanese as well!

This app does not work in iOS 8. Has been abandoned by developer; no response to emails. It freezes when trying to reset score ever since iOS 8 update. A real shame since I have used this app almost daily for years until the iOS 8 release.
