Japanese Flip is a learning tool similar to flashcards, but with an intelligent progress tracking system that helps you learn faster. After you "flip" to the answer, you pick if you were Right or Wrong.

The program remembers which Japanese words you have trouble with, and which you have learned well. It focuses on the problematic items, while using longer spans of time between repetitions of learned material.

Pros and cons of Japanese Flip app for iPhone and iPad

Japanese Flip app good for

I would only give 4 stars, because its a good application which helped me a lot to learn new vocabs. Its addictive, efficient and offline. But there are sometimes some mistakes with the pronounciation (in hiragana). What would make this application the creme de la creme are some example sentences of how to use the words, an audio voice , a recorder and a listing by categories of the vocab. These would definitely make this program incontrovertible !
This is quite a good application and i do not have any reason to complain about anything. Having said this, I would greatly appreciate some further features if possible. it would be nice if there was a timer integrated: If you are thinking too long but clear the word finally, expired time is taken into account and the word will be tested more frequently than one cleared in shorter time. A quiz mode would be nice, giving you 3, 4, 5 alternatives to choose from instead of tapping a yes or no. It would be also nice if you could adjust the dosage of new vocabulary, giving you a real choice at which pace you want to learn new words, or repeat already cleared ones. Well, despite all these suggestions the app is a great tool to study Japanese and is highly recommended. Thank you very much Andre ;-)
I bought this app to brush up on my Japanese reading skills. Unless you know Japanese words with the kanji, you will be completely lost when trying to read any written text in Japan. This app will help you learn easy to advanced words with big pictures of the kanji along with kana and definitions. There is no romaji in this app, so you must at least know how to read the kana characters.
I use Japanese Flip (and Kanji Flip) all the time. It makes learning Japanese fun and it is extremely easy to use on the go. Ive paid over $100 in buying flash cards for learning Japanese and this does exactly what I needed except for only $5. It also feel great supporting a developer that upgrades his app and takes suggestions. If you want to learn Japanese, Japanese Flip and Kanji Flip are very fun ways to start learning!
This is my killer app for the iPhone and Touch platform. Im studying for the JLPT 2kyu, and my #1 priority is vocabulary building. This app is spot-on. With 2 hours of commuting per day on crowded trains, Ive tried many different study methods to use that time; flashcards, books, web-apps & programs. This smart flashcard-style app gives me 2 hours of study a day with no Internet connection necessary nor extra items to carry. Thank you for making this App. Bravo & 5 stars.
Ive built my vocabulary faster with this program than with any other method that Ive used since beginning my studies almost two years ago! Hooray for a brilliant app!!! Well worth more than the paltry sum of 4.99!

Some bad moments

Just wasted $6 for no reason. I wish there was a lite version for free where i couldve tested it out before buying it... Basicly if u dont know japanese writing, u cant use this program. I thought the japanese words would be written with the english alphabet so i could pronounce it and learn the meanings. Can you refund me my money please?
I USED to love this app. This used to be the main reason why I had an iPhone. Since I was studying for the jlpt 2 I used this app literally everyday whenever i had a minute of free time as a vocab and kanji builder. However since I found Japanese Flash I no longer use this app for a number of reasons. Honestly, get Japanese flash instead. No multitasking, if I come across a new word and I switch apps to check a dictionary and when I switch back it has to reload and I am taken to the menu. No updates, this version hasnt been updated in a year. I know all the words and kanji and definitions arent 100% correct. Wheres the support to update an incorrect word? Which brings me to my next point... No way to directly notify the developer of an incorrect word. No built in dictionary. No example sentences for the word. No way to change how many words you see at a time. Jlpt 3 and 4 limited the new words to 30 but jlpt 2 is at 70. No way to adjust that. Only Jlpt study sets Japanese Flash corrects all of these problems and more. The developers only program Japanese language apps the Flip apps are just thrown together for every language.
love your program but not loving your pricing policies. one day its 4.99 then the next day its 5.99 then 4.99 then 7.99. you know there are websites that track app prices right? can you just pick a price and go with it?
What can I say, Im very impressed by this product. However, there are a few things that could be made to make this the absolute BEST Japanese program on ITunes (And that is saying a lot as this is already impressive.) 1. Keep a list of mastered words, and group them for future review better. It seems random now. 2. Example sentences... PLEASE! Even just one! 3. COROLATE WITH KANJI FLIP or at least set it up so in some way we can make the kanji we dont know with the vocab we dont if we have both programs! Over all great work... but you are just shy away from excelence. Just tweak a bit more please!
I still have my Cannon WordTank 9000 which I bought for $350 but that was back in the day. I remember studying kanji all the time on the subway and train. Oh how I wish I had this back then.
With the JLPT coming up in a few weeks, I was looking for something to help me boost my vocabulary and kanji without having to connect to the internet so I could use it on my commute to and from school, and this looks like it will do the job. Im glad that this app has the option to choose if you got it right or wrong, but it would be nice to have a few more levels of whether we know it or not (the site I use for kanji has unread, read, familiar, mastered, and review folders to sort the cards into). It would also be nice to have example sentences for the words because for a lot of JLPT questions, you have to be able distinguish between words that may have very similar definitions in English, but different usages in Japanese. Still, this saves me the trouble of having to buy a flashcard app and make my own flashcards. Thanks for making this app!
